Apex Architecture is currently supporting the delivery of an exceptional new home in the heart of the Cotswolds. This is a striking and technically demanding project set in an exposed rural landscape.
Originally designed by Fleming Architects, Apex were appointed from RIBA Stage 4 onwards to take the project through the detailed design and delivery stages. Our role has focused on technical coordination, planning compliance and ensuring that the original design intent could be realised on site.
Turning a complex design into reality
The house sits half a mile from the nearest road and required significant landscape grading to position it correctly within the sloping site. During construction, additional drainage measures were introduced to help manage surface water, one of several challenges that required careful coordination and on-site problem solving.
Built around a highly bespoke steel frame, the home features large roof overhangs and generous open plan spaces. Apex worked closely with OMK Structural Engineers and Hawkins Steel, who produced a full 3D model of the frame to ensure every junction and detail worked before fabrication began.
Externally, the material palette includes Elzinc Rainbow Rojo cladding, western red cedar fins and Cotswold drystone walling stone. These were chosen for their quality, longevity and suitability for the rural setting.
Collaborative delivery
Alongside the main contractor and wider professional team, Apex has been responsible for preparing the technical information required by the local authority, coordinating amendments for a new swimming pool and garaging, and securing additional consent for a roof terrace with views across the Cotswold landscape.
Close collaboration with Eve Building Consultancy (Employer’s Agent), Collina MEP Design and Energist has ensured that structural, environmental and building services considerations were integrated as the build progressed.
On site now
Construction began in late 2023 and is due to complete in 2025. As the project nears completion it is becoming a clear example of how careful coordination, technical depth and specialist collaboration can bring a highly complex, beautiful, rural home to life.
