Location: Monmouthshire
Client: Private
The brief: Our clients wanted to remodel and completely rethink their family home, dramatically improving the external appearance and how the spaces worked, whilst also improving the future value of the property. Set in open countryside in Monmouthshire, the property had been extended several times over the years, resulting in a layout that felt dated and didn’t make the most of the setting. The clients had already taken early design advice, and Apex were asked to bring a new perspective, starting with a full measured survey before exploring several design options.
Key features:

While the overall footprint stayed the same, the layout and form were redesigned to make better use of space and light. New gables at the front and rear give the house character and connect key rooms with the surrounding countryside. Inside, the spaces now flow more naturally, drawing in light and framing views across the valley. The result is a home that feels calm, balanced and well-crafted, with materials and detailing chosen for both character and performance.

Our role:

Apex managed the project from early design through planning and technical stages. The first planning submission was refined through discussion with the council, before being approved just nine weeks after validation. The planning officer described the outcome as “a significant enhancement to the dwelling”.
