New Build within Existing Grounds, Forest of Dean

Category: New Builds
Location: Forest of Dean
Client: Private
The brief: We were appointed to design a new home within the existing grounds of a property in the Forest of Dean. The client, looking to downsize while remaining in a familiar setting, wanted a comfortable, efficient new build home that made best use of their generous garden plot. The new dwelling needed to sit sensitively within the local context and neighbouring properties.
Key features:

The proposal is a one-and-a-half-storey home that draws on simple, traditional proportions and materials to reflect the surrounding character. A covered first-floor balcony with frameless glass balustrading extends from the master bedroom, offering views over the garden and beyond. The design is carefully balanced to sit comfortably within its surroundings while making the most of modern construction and detailing.

Our role:

We guided the project from early concept through to planning and technical design. After an initial Permission in Principle (PiP) application was refused, we successfully overturned the decision, establishing the right to build on the site. Full planning approval followed in August 2024, and we have now developed the Building Regulations package and construction works are well underway.
